Ledger Has Announced the Nano X

The Upgrade to Nano S Digital Wallet Has Caused Skepticism

The popular cryptocurrency hardware wallet company, Ledger, has announced a new Bluetooth-based wallet on January 7.

The wallet is named Ledger Nano X, and will be unveiled on Jan 16 at CES 2019 conference in Las Vegas. The company has announced that the mobile app set up, Ledger Live, will also be released along with the wallet. Such a system will allow users to manage their account, check the balance and make transactions through their mobile device.

More Details Here

The wallet, Ledger Nano X, will be able to store 100 crypto assets. Nano X is an upgrade to Nano S and comes with added versatility and complexity. To begin with, Nano X flaunts a larger screen and provides swifter navigation when compared to the Nano S. What’s more, unlike Nano S, Nano X is capable of holding a charge.

The wallet will be launched along with its mobile app, Ledger Live, which will be compatible with both Android and iOS devices.

Éric Larchevêque, the Ledger’s CEO, pointed out that Nano S had memory issues and various users complained about it. He said:

“Depending on the app, you can have from five to ten to fifteen wallets, but if you have a lot of cryptos, you need to install and reinstall these to manage coins—it’s a lot of work. Now, with the Nano X, you have much more memory, and you can have up to 100 applications at one time.”

Social Media is Skeptical

Although the wallet is now integrated with new features, social media seems to be skeptical about it and provided mixed reactions. A user posted, “The counterargument I’ve heard is that with limited memory, there is less working space for malware. Simpler systems have fewer points of failure as well.”

Meanwhile, another user was doubtful of the wallet’s capacity to store 100 apps at the same time. He took on to Reddit to say, “I don’t think you can store 100 apps at the same time. It sounds like the same Marketing BS like the “up to 18 apps” before. We better wait until the first postings of “my ledger shows insufficient space.”

A lot many users seemed to be somewhat happy with the announcement. “@LedgerHQ announced their new Nano X. It has Bluetooth which means for the first time it can be paired with an iPhone! There’s a tradeoff: more connectivity options mean more attack surfaces. I’ll try it out when it ships in March”, posted a user.

The Ledger Live app is expected to be available on Google and Apple Play stores on Jan 16. The wallet, as of now, is available for preorders with shipping scheduled to start in March. Ledger is known for its storage systems. Most recently, they announced the launch of the “LockBox“, in partnership with one of the earliest crypto web wallet provider, Blockchain.

Keeping the skeptics aside, we feel that this is a significant step, and the wallet technology will gradually improve with the time as cryptocurrency adoption becomes more common. What do you think?
